Care checks
What does an Arizona telehealth visit involve?
A remote visit still needs an assessment. Ask how the conversation works and how you can follow up.

Does telehealth always mean video?
As of October 6, 2026, Arizona counts live remote care and health information sent for later review as telehealth.
A phone-only visit can count if the clinician finds video is not reasonably available due to the patient’s abilities, technology or service limits.
Ask whether the visit uses phone, video, or a written questionnaire. If you fill in questions online, ask who reads your answers and how you can talk with that person.
What happens before the visit begins?
Arizona generally calls for informed consent before a telehealth visit, as of October 3, 2026.
For spoken consent, that agreement must be noted in the medical record.
Informed consent is your agreement to care after someone explains it. Ask about the visit format, what information is kept, and how questions will be handled.
Can a remote visit lead to a prescription?
Some prescriptions can be given remotely in Arizona without an earlier in-person visit, as of October 3, 2026. An appropriate exam and the medicine’s rules still apply.
For Arizona doctors with an MD degree, a website request by itself cannot replace an appropriate exam or an established doctor-patient relationship.
That relationship means the doctor already knows you as a patient. Ask: will this doctor review my health and examine me during this visit, or are they relying on care they have already given me?
The answer depends on the medicine and your situation. An online menu cannot explain why a product fits your concern.
What can I ask about follow-up?
The group of state medical boards advises keeping a way open for patients to ask questions after care. This is guidance, not a law for the whole country.
- How do I ask a question after the visit?
- Who reads that question?
- What happens if a test or hands-on exam is needed?
- Can I get a written record of the plan?
